Zaka Ashraf stepped down as the temporary head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday, just days after the government prevented him from holding a meeting. The government's committee asked Ashraf to cancel a PCB management committee meeting in Karachi and restricted him from making significant financial decisions.

Despite the government's directive, Ashraf called for an urgent meeting in Lahore on Friday and announced his resignation. In a statement, the cricket board mentioned that Ashraf expressed gratitude to the committee, PCB management, and staff for their support during his tenure, while committee members and PCB management thanked him for his leadership.

Ashraf took over from Najam Sethi in July but faced a deadline from the government to form a board of governors and conduct a PCB chairman election by Feb. 4, which he couldn't meet. During Ashraf's time, the Pakistan men's cricket team had disappointing performances, exiting the group stage at the Cricket World Cup in India and not progressing past the Super Four in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

After the World Cup, captain Babar Azam resigned in all formats, and both team director Mickey Arthur and coach Grant Bradburn were asked to report to the National Cricket Academy in Lahore before eventually resigning. Under new test captain Shan Masood, Pakistan suffered a 3-0 defeat against Australia. Currently, T20 captain Shaheen Shah Afridi's team is trailing 4-0 in the five-match series in New Zealand, with the last T20 scheduled for Sunday.
